Digital X-rays
![]() Why Digital Radiography? We have used x-rays in our practice for years, because it is one of our diagnostic tools, and allows us to look at your mouth and all of its structures. We get a really close look at your jawline, your gums and your teeth. Sometimes, x-rays can pick up problems under the surface of your teeth and gums that we can't see with just our eyes alone. X-rays are great, but they're now dated. Also, many people don't want to use x-rays because each x-ray deposits a tiny amount of radiation in your body, and over time, those tiny amounts can add up. We also have to wait on traditional x-rays to develop, which means more visits for you. No one wants to make multiple visits to fix a problem. Digital radiography makes x-rays much easier and faster. The Innovation of Digital RadiographyDigital radiography is a type of x-ray that represents an innovation in our practice. It uses a lot less radiation - which many of our patients really like. Also, while the old way of doing x-rays took hours, digital radiography takes seconds, and we can see the results instantly. This means that if there's a problem or we need a closer look, you're still in our office. While traditional x-rays are blurry, digital radiography is so clear, we can see a small problem with soft tissues in your mouth. How Does It Work? There are a couple different ways we can take a digital radiographic picture. First, we could take your x-rays through the intraoral method. This means that just like traditional x-rays, you bite down on plastic - but two times rather than four times. Two takes will give us a picture of all of your teeth. We can also take a different kind of x-ray called peripheral x-rays. These x-rays help us to see any issues you're having with your jaws, because we can see your jaws from the root of your tooth to the crown. Peripheral x-rays also allow us to take a single picture on the outside of your mouth as well. Digital radiography represents a great tool in our arsenal to help us keep you healthy. When we really need to get a good picture of a problem you're having, digital radiography is the way to go.
